Any Nova Scotia business that charges customers on a recurring basis — think streaming services, software-as-a-service platforms, gym memberships, meal kit delivery, or magazine subscriptions — will need to change how they handle renewals and cancellations. Businesses must send customers a reminder notice before each renewal (7 days out for monthly plans, up to a month out for longer terms) and cannot make cancellation harder than sign-up. A business that lets customers subscribe through a website must also let them cancel through that same website — no more forcing customers to call in or navigate confusing retention flows. This applies regardless of business size, from a solo operator selling a software tool online to a larger company managing thousands of recurring memberships.
