Ce que fait ce projet de loi

This Nova Scotia bill bundles a wide range of public safety measures, including: allowing the immediate dissolution of companies, co-operatives, and societies linked to terrorism; modernizing the 911 system and banning false 911 calls; expanding legal protections around intimate images (including AI-generated fakes); creating air ambulance flight path protection corridors near hospitals; strengthening community safety orders against properties used for gang activity, human trafficking, or storing stolen goods; and formally establishing the Nova Scotia Conservation Officer Service as a recognized peace officer body.

Impact sur les entreprises

EmploiConformité
Businesses most directly affected fall into a few distinct groups. First, any incorporated company, co-operative, or society operating in Nova Scotia that is or becomes federally listed as a terrorist entity can be dissolved immediately by the Registrar — with no winding-up process — which is an existential risk for any such organization, however unlikely in practice. Second, developers, contractors, and property owners working on construction projects near hospital heliports anywhere in Nova Scotia could find their building height plans overridden by a ministerial order designating an air ambulance service protection corridor, with no compensation available. Third, businesses that run online platforms, social media services, or digital content tools may face new compliance obligations under the expanded intimate image rules — including obligations around AI-generated images — and could be subject to administrative penalties. Fourth, property owners in neighbourhoods flagged for gang activity, human trafficking, or stolen goods storage face a longer potential closure order (up from 90 days to one year) under the Safer Communities Act.
