Bill 267: Safe Indoor Temperatures Act

This bill primarily affects landlords and property managers running apartment buildings with more than four units, as well as operators of nursing homes, residential care facilities, and public or government-owned buildings in Nova Scotia. If you own or manage a rental building, you'll need to make sure your property has a working cooling system every summer — and you can't charge tenants a separate fee just for having that system available. Long-term care home operators face additional requirements around backup systems, staff training, and heat mitigation protocols. Smaller condo corporations only need to worry about shared common areas, not individual owner-occupied units.
