This regulation increases Canada Post's regulated postage rates for domestic letters, US-bound mail, and international letter-post items, as well as the domestic registered mail fee, effective May 6, 2024, to help offset inflation-driven operating cost increases.

Approximately 1.2 million small businesses that use stamps to pay postage will see their annual mailing costs rise by an estimated $12.07 per year, based on an average annual postage spend of $170.16. The single-stamp price rises from $1.07 to $1.15 (7.5% increase), booklet/coil/pane stamps go from $0.92 to $0.99 (7.6%), and registered mail jumps from $9.75 to $10.50. Businesses mailing to the US or internationally will also see roughly 7.6% increases across all weight categories. The total annualized cost to all small businesses combined is estimated at just over $14.4 million per year.
