Oil and gas producers operating in Saskatchewan will only need to comply with one set of rules — Saskatchewan's own provincial regulations and directives — rather than facing overlapping federal and provincial requirements. This reduces paperwork and reporting burden for upstream oil and gas operators in the province, with no new incremental costs imposed on businesses, including small businesses. The federal government itself saves an estimated $474,188 over five years by suspending its own enforcement and compliance promotion activities in Saskatchewan. Operators on interprovincial pipeline infrastructure (federal works and undertakings) remain subject to the federal rules regardless of this order.
