GI-2024-22-reg4: Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Concerning Controlled Substances

Businesses holding or applying for dealer's licences for narcotics and controlled drugs — such as pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and veterinary drug suppliers — will need to ensure their compliance practices, licence applications, and product labelling align with the updated regulatory references. The changes are largely administrative, updating definitions and cross-references rather than introducing new substantive requirements, so day-to-day operations are unlikely to change significantly. Companies involved in criminal record checks for precursor control applications will now need documentation from either a Canadian police force or an RCMP-accredited company, which slightly broadens acceptable sources. With a full year before coming into force, affected businesses have ample time to update internal procedures and documentation.
