QC-010: Bill 10: An Act to protect consumers against abusive practices in ticket reselling and online subscription renewal

This bill hits two main groups of Quebec-based businesses hard. First, anyone running or using a digital ticket resale platform — think online brokers or marketplaces where concert, sports, or event tickets change hands — will need to overhaul how they present pricing, disclose resale status upfront, and stop charging ticket transfer fees. Second, businesses selling subscription services online — like streaming, software, telecom, or cable TV — will need to add a clearly visible cancellation button to their platforms and send customers a written heads-up 2 to 10 days before a free or discounted trial period ends and regular pricing kicks in. Telecom and cable providers also have to show all non-instalment fees right next to advertised monthly rates. On top of that, any merchant — regardless of size — who uses contract clauses to stop customers from leaving reviews is now offside, and businesses cannot pocket money they were prohibited from charging in the first place.
