If you run a healthcare organization or employ healthcare workers (including contractors, students, and trainees), you are now prohibited from firing, demoting, or otherwise penalizing staff who speak up about patient safety issues, staffing problems, or misuse of resources. Non-disclosure agreements and confidentiality clauses that would silence workers on these topics become unenforceable. Organizations found to have retaliated can be ordered to reinstate workers, pay back wages, or face fines up to $250,000.
