Bill 130: Traffic Safety Act

This bill affects a wide range of Nova Scotia businesses that operate on or interact with public roads. Commercial carriers and trucking operators face detailed obligations around vehicle inspections, maintenance records, hours of service, insurance, and safety fitness ratings. Vehicle dealers, driving schools, inspection stations, and fleet training programs must hold specific licences and comply with conduct and record-keeping requirements enforced by the Registrar. Trades and construction firms that work in temporary work areas on highways must follow certified traffic control and signage rules. Even small owner-operators — such as a solo trucker, a used car dealer selling more than four vehicles a year, or a garage owner receiving collision-damaged vehicles — have reporting and compliance obligations that apply to their day-to-day work.
