This bill affects any business owner or operator in the Northwest Territories who owns or occupies premises — from retail stores and farms to construction sites, warehouses, and even vehicles or trailers used for business purposes. Day-to-day activities like posting 'no trespassing' signs, directing people to leave the property, or dealing with unauthorized individuals on-site are now governed by clear legal rules. Farmers and agricultural operators benefit from default trespass protections on cultivated land and enclosed fields without needing to post signs. Larger employers and property managers should ensure that any staff authorized to give notices or direct people off premises are properly designated, as unauthorized notice-posting is itself an offence carrying a fine up to $2,000.
