These regulations require anyone who possesses or exports elvers (juvenile American eels less than 10 cm long) in Canada to hold a licence, with limited exceptions, and impose traceability, record-keeping, labelling, and container-sealing requirements throughout the post-harvest supply chain to crack down on the widespread illegal harvesting and export of this highly valuable species.
