Bill 48: The Compassionate Intervention Act

This bill primarily affects healthcare providers, addiction treatment facilities, and social services organizations operating in Saskatchewan. Clinics, hospitals, detox centres, and treatment facilities may be designated as compassionate intervention assessment or treatment centres, requiring them to meet staffing, documentation, and care standards set by the Health Director. Addiction treatment professionals — whether working solo or as part of a larger team — will take on new legal duties around patient assessment, monitoring, and reporting, including preparing written reports and participating in board hearings. Outpatient service providers such as community-based counsellors and recovery coaches will also be drawn into compliance obligations around out-patient recovery orders, including mandatory reporting and attendance tracking for clients under court-ordered care.
