Used car dealers in Nova Scotia will face two main changes: they must ensure any used vehicle they sell has passed an official motor vehicle inspection within the past six months before completing the sale, and they will need to issue rebates to customers for sales tax collected on used personal vehicles already registered in the province. Private sellers of used vehicles are also affected, as they must obtain a passing inspection before selling — though gifts, estate transfers, repossessions, salvage vehicles, and dealer-to-dealer transfers are exempt. Licensed testing stations (garages and inspection facilities) may see increased demand for pre-sale inspections.
