Bill 13: Forestry Act (Amdt.)

This bill primarily affects people running sawmills, logging camps, mines, and anyone doing tree-cutting or industrial work on or near forested land in Newfoundland and Labrador. Mill operators now face the risk of having their licence or mill operations suspended (not just cancelled) for non-compliance, and running a mill while suspended becomes a named offence. Logging crews, contractors, and anyone burning debris during fire season on virtually any land with flammable vegetation — not just traditional forest land — now need a permit to burn and must comply with expanded fire-safety rules. Solo operators and small logging or land-clearing businesses will feel this most directly in their day-to-day field work, since forestry officials now have broader authority to set permit conditions, amend operating permits, and order people to leave fire-affected areas.
