Bill 24: Pay Transparency Act

This law affects every employer in New Brunswick, but hits hardest for businesses with 50 or more employees — think mid-sized manufacturers, retailers, construction firms, healthcare providers, or professional services companies that regularly post jobs and manage payroll for larger teams. Any business posting a job opening — whether publicly or internally — will need to include a wage or salary range in that posting, changing how HR teams and hiring managers write and advertise roles. Companies with 50 or more employees will also need to start collecting voluntary demographic information from their staff and filing annual pay transparency reports, which means new administrative work around payroll data, reporting systems, and public disclosure. Employers of all sizes are also prohibited from asking applicants about their past pay, and cannot discipline or silence employees who talk about their wages with coworkers.
