Compliance
All CDIC member institutions — including banks, credit unions, and other deposit-taking institutions — will need to update their operations in several ways. You'll need to build and run an annual training program for any client-facing staff (branch reps, call centre agents, online chat staff) covering the basics of CDIC coverage, which CDIC will support with a ready-made training module. Any paid video ads you run on TV, streaming, or social media that touch on deposits will need to visibly display your CDIC membership status. If you operate under a trade name on your website (e.g. a subsidiary brand), you'll need to add specific disclosure language explaining how coverage works for deposits made under that name. Signage requirements are being simplified — you'll use either the physical membership sign or the new CDIC digital symbol — and you can now display the membership sign on a rolling digital screen in-branch rather than a static physical sign. The RIAS notes that compliance costs for most amendments are expected to be low, and some changes (like signage flexibility) actually reduce burden.
