The primary businesses affected are Ontario-based manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers who sell to the public sector — think companies that supply office equipment, IT services, construction materials, food products, or professional services to hospitals, school boards, municipalities, universities, and provincial government agencies. If you're a business in Ontario that makes or sells goods or provides services and you've been bidding on public sector contracts, this law could work in your favour by requiring buyers to prefer Ontario or Canadian suppliers. Conversely, if you're an out-of-province or international vendor that has been winning Ontario public sector contracts, you may find yourself at a competitive disadvantage or even excluded from certain procurements.
