Federal bills

This bill amends the Divorce Act to strengthen protections against family violence in divorce proceedings by requiring lawyers to assess violence risks, restricting courts from considering 'parental alienation' claims, prohibiting reunification therapy orders, changing how courts evaluate family violence evidence, and allowing courts to hear directly from children in custody matters.

This bill ensures that parents receiving Employment Insurance parental benefits continue to receive those benefits if their newborn or newly adopted child dies during the benefit period, and extends bereavement leave under the Canada Labour Code to up to 10 weeks for the death of a child.
