Bill S-232: Can’t Buy Silence Act

This bill primarily affects non-governmental organizations, charities, research institutions, universities, and any other entities that receive federal grants or contributions. If your organization gets federal funding — whether you're a non-profit running community programs, a university conducting federally funded research, or a business receiving government contributions — you will no longer be able to use that money to fund settlements that include NDAs related to harassment, violence, or discrimination complaints. You'll also need to report annually to the Treasury Board on how many NDAs your organization has entered into and their total dollar value. Size doesn't matter — any entity receiving federal funds is caught by these requirements, from small community organizations to large institutions.
