Bill C-225: An Act to amend the Criminal Code

This bill is a criminal law reform focused on domestic and intimate partner violence — it does not directly regulate businesses, impose compliance obligations on employers, or affect commercial activity. The businesses most indirectly touched would be those in legal services (criminal defence lawyers, Crown counsel, legal aid organizations) who will need to understand and apply the new offence categories and sentencing frameworks. Victim services organizations and shelters operating across all provinces may also see shifts in how cases they support are prosecuted. For the vast majority of Canadian businesses — regardless of size or industry — this legislation has no day-to-day operational impact.
