Lenders, retailers, auto dealerships, and any other business that pulls a credit report before extending financing will also be affected, because if a report contains a security alert, they must take extra steps to contact or verify the individual before signing a credit agreement and keep records of having done so. Reporting agencies cannot charge consumers any fees for these services and must publish clear information about these rights on their websites. The compliance burden is heavier for credit bureaus and high-volume lenders than for occasional credit grantors, but any business that enters into credit agreements with Alberta consumers will need updated intake procedures.
