This bill primarily affects lobbyists and businesses that regularly interact with the Alberta government — think energy companies, construction firms, consultants, or any organization that hires lobbyists or has contracts, permits, or regulatory matters before provincial ministries. If your company currently entertains government officials or offers tickets, hospitality, or other perks as part of relationship-building, those practices face much tighter rules: non-cash gifts over $100 require Ethics Commissioner approval, and anything given by a registered lobbyist or a business with dealings before the Crown is banned outright. Organizations that employ government relations professionals or maintain active lobbying files in Alberta will need to update their internal gift policies and staff training to stay on the right side of these new limits.
